Tooth shape is considered alongside the lips, facial proportions and smile. Photographs of the face and mouth help discuss what you want to change and what you want to preserve. A reference image expresses a preference but does not prescribe an identical smile. The mock-up lets you discuss the proposal in your own mouth before the final ceramic is made.

Before starting, you should understand the problem identified, what should be preserved, the alternatives and the proposed order of treatment. Ask which decisions have been made and which still require further records or assessment. The material, planned preparation for each tooth, stages, costs and follow-up should be clear. When comparing cases, ask what was done, the starting condition and when the final photograph was taken. Before-and-after images alone do not demonstrate long-term stability. Verifiable credentials and publications provide context; they do not guarantee an individual outcome.

Planning needs to consider how the teeth contact each other as well as their appearance. Tell your clinician if you clench, wear down teeth or feel discomfort when closing or chewing. These findings need assessment before an aesthetic plan is agreed. Veneers are not presented as an automatic solution to bite problems; assessment determines whether further investigations or other treatment are needed.

The indication should be explained tooth by tooth: position, remaining structure, existing restorations and space for the proposed design may differ. Preserving tooth tissue is a planning goal. No-prep and minimal preparation describe different situations; treatment without preparation cannot be promised for a whole smile before assessment. Ask what changes are planned and why.

This is an important concern to discuss before treatment. During the mock-up, explain if teeth feel too long, wide or bulky and which features you want to preserve. Ask which adjustments are possible and where clinical limits apply. This physical trial helps assess shape and proportions in your mouth; an on-screen simulation shows a visual proposal. Neither reproduces the exact colour and translucency of the final ceramic. Before bonding, we review the appearance with you and discuss any concerns. If veneers are already in place and something does not feel right, we assess what can be adjusted and what would require replacing a veneer. Not every change can be achieved by polishing, and removal is not promised to be intervention-free.

During the first few days, you may notice a new physical sensation: a little more volume, a different feeling when closing your mouth or a smile you are still getting used to. In Dr Carlos Saiz's clinical experience, these sensations tend to be most noticeable during the first week, and many patients feel comfortable from then on. This is guidance based on his experience, not a guaranteed deadline: everyone adapts at their own pace.

A new sensation is worth discussing with us. If a contact feels uncomfortable when you close your mouth, your bite remains uncomfortable or floss catches or is difficult to pass, contact the clinic so we can check your bite and the contact points between your teeth. We do not assume that everything will resolve through adaptation; we check whether an adjustment is needed.

You do not need to wait for your scheduled review. If you develop pain, persistent discomfort or any concern about your bite or cleaning, contact us. We will advise you and assess whether an earlier review would be helpful. Follow-up is part of your treatment.

Usually about two weeks from the first visit to veneer placement: an in-mouth mock-up about one week after the initial records, then placement about one further week later. One follow-up appointment is arranged about ten days after placement. Timing is approximate and is confirmed after assessment.
